MEPA For Consultants

Managing Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesia – a new course for Consultants: MEPA FC

The MEPA FC course is intended for consultants, SAS anaesthetists and attendings working in non-specialist hospitals who have occasional paediatric practice.

The course provides a comprehensive update in paediatric anaesthesia and resuscitation of the sick child for those who undertake an occasional paediatric list, provide out of hours care or may be involved in the care of the sick child.

All the MEPA FC scenarios are evidence based and have been ratified by the MEPA group. The course aims to provide comprehensive support for the updated appraisal process leading to revalidation and covers all aspects of paediatric CPD recommended in the RCoA level 2 matrix – see below for codes covered.

We hope that you will find the scenarios challenging and useful for updating and maintaining skills in the care of children.

Currently CPD approval for each course will be applied for locally. Approval of MEPA FC for CPD and revalidation by the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists and the Royal College of Anaesthetists CPD committee is being sought.

Feedback from all candidates at the end of each course will be via the MEPA website, following which a standard CPD certificate will be issued.

RCoA CPD codes for revalidation:

2DO1 Assessment and initial management of the critically ill child

2DO2 Perioperative care of children

2DO3 Vascular access techniques

2DO4 Fluid management for children

2DO5 Analgesia for children

2DO6 Sedation techniques for children

2DO7 Team working between DGHs and PIC retrieval teams

All from Level 2 matrix – see www.rcoa.ac.uk
